As we all know, Roy Thomas has been laying claim to having a hand in the creation of Wolverine for a few years now, but it’s really gone to a new level now that the three men who had the biggest claim are now dead. If you’re so inclined, you can read what Roy has been saying here. Even though the official line now has Wolverine created by Len Wein, John Romita and Roy Thomas (forgetting that Herb Trimpe drew the character for publication first, and the contributions of Chris Claremont, John Byrne, Dave Cockrum and Frank Miller had on developing the character) and, despite the fuss, that’s where it sat.
Until this past weekend.
Roy Thomas attended the Supanova convention in Brisbane. Although I was there on the Friday, Roy wasn’t, which is a shame as I wanted to catch him for a quick chat. On the Saturday night, Neville Tiberius Howard (who is the admin of the Grail Hunters Australia: Comic, Collecting & Podcast Group), posted this image of the last page of The Incredible Hulk #180, which features the first appearance of Wolverine.
As you can see, Roy has ‘annotated’ the page.
Oy vey! Roy, Roy, Roy…what are you doing man? Do you really want to be known as Stan Lee V.2.0 when it comes to credit stealing?
