There’s an adage when it comes to bankruptcy cases which is, no matter what, the lawyers get paid. In full. The current Diamond Comic Distributors, Inc bankruptcy case is no exception.
Even though some of the companies involved have yet to be paid, the lawyers are putting in their invoices for fees and expenses. And they’re impressive. So far the lawyers have accounted for just under $10,000,000 of Diamond’s money. And it’ll keep growing.
For your pleasure, I’ve gathered the summaries of all the fees and expenses claim thus far, that have been documented.
You might need to click on it to get the full picture. If you want the basic summary, here you go.
Some of the expenses are laughable. As little as $6.00 for a bottle of water up to thousands for hotel rooms, flights and dinners. Cars, petrol, hire cars, ubers, tolls, taxis, parking, snacks, coffee - you name it, they claim it. And they’ll continue to do so.
I could give you a deep drill down into every single expense claimed, but it’s hundreds and hundreds of pages of utterly boring crap. Believe me, you don’t want to read it. It’s enough to make your eyes both bleed and cry.
Money can’t be found to pay some of the companies owed just yet, but the lawyers are making damned sure they’re going to get their cut.
Diamond Distribution. Bin fire par excellence.
Is mystery. Not the lawyers being some sort of priority creditors — that makes sense.
But $10m for *this* bankruptcy. Of course, the Diamond businesses are a huge mess which means this is messy and complex.
But still, I dunno.
